Changes to Kapiti Line timetables from 25 February
Metlink is making minor changes to its rail timetable on the Kapiti Line to increase capacity during the morning peak, and to improve punctuality of service in the morning and afternoon peak.
The changes include the permanent introduction of a recent trial of an additional morning train departing Waikanae and a stopping schedule change to increase capacity for users of Porirua Station.
“We have had an unprecedented increase in patronage on the Kapiti Line, with a further 7% increase during peak over last year. Things are getting pretty crowded for our morning commuters and these changes are being made as a step towards addressing the capacity issues during peak travel times,” says Sustainable Transport Chair Barbara Donaldson.
The changes will mean timetable changes for some morning peak services and commuters are encouraged to visit Metlink before travelling to check travel times.
“While these changes are very slight, we encourage people to know before they go and check the Metlink website before travelling,” says Cr Donaldson.
Key changes to Kapiti Line Rail timeline:
- An additional service will depart Waikanae at 6:46am. This was trialled in 2018 and is being instated as a permanent service
- The 7:03am service departing Plimmerton will become a Porirua service, departing Porirua at 7:11am. Alternative services depart Plimmerton at 6:45am or 7:09am
- The 3:39pm Wellington to Plimmerton service will now terminate at Porirua station, with alternative service departing Wellington at 3:35pm or 3:55pm
